What Is Freedom By Design
Freedom by Design, the AIAS community service program in partnership with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), uses the talents of architecture students to radically impact the lives of people in their community through modest design and construction solutions. Freedom by Design (FBD) teaches students how to resolve issues while simultaneously providing them with the real world experience of working with clients, mentorship from licensed architects and contractors, and an understanding of the practical impact of architecture and design
Freedom By Design is a brand new program to our chapter here at Mississippi State University. We started a FBD exploratory committee in Fall 2015 and were officially approved as a Freedom By Design Chapter in Fall 2016.

Fall 2017 Project
This year our FBD team worked on a wheel chair ramp for the Oktoc Community Club. Our team was able to design and build the ramp in just a matter of three weeks. They spent several late nights pouring concrete and laying boards for the ramp.

Spring 2017 Project
This year our FBD team worked on a project with the local Boys and Girls Club. We designed, fundraised, and built three composting bins for their educational garden. These bins house organic waste that will eventually be used as soil in the garden beds.
